A Deeper Appreciation for the Saints

I am not much of a football fan. If something doesn’t have a USB port, an Apple Logo, and a screen on it, I don’t usually pay attention. But the New Orleans Saints have swept through my fare state of Louisiana like the breath of the Almighty. I think that what has happened is much bigger than a team of amazing athletes having an widly successful season. What we are seeing is a city, nah state, finding hope again.

This video gave me some perspective about how deep this is for people of Louisiana and New Orleans. I was shocked a few nights ago when the Saints won the NFC championship cinching their place in the Superbowl, that countless numbers of people were brought to tears over the victory. In my city of Lafayette, 3 hours west of New Orleans, there were fireworks going off across the night sky! After speaking with a few residents of New Orleans I now know why this was so important. It said to the world that New Orleans is alive once again! That there is no longer a spirit of “rebuilding” in our hearts, but of resolve that the foundation has been rebuilt and the hope of New Orleans is touching the heavens like skyscrapers of new growth.
